Although they haven't directly influenced my style there are two artists whose life and
works I draw inspiration from, Vincent Van Gogh and Henry Darger.  Creating art
isn't easy under the best of conditions.  But to create work when it's sneered at by
critics and ignored by the public is exceptionally demanding.  It takes a level of
commitment that borders on the psychotic.  Both Van Gogh and Darger held fast to
their visions and created a large body of work in spite of the public's indifference

Whenever my spirit and will to work runs thin I think of heart-broken Vincent sitting
alone in his room painting Gauguin’s abandoned chair, or the anonymous Henry in a
cramped Chicago apartment carefully adding to his “Vivian Girls” masterwork.  Their
example gives me the strength and confidence to return to my own work, such that it
is.
