The Stuckist Manifesto
Suburban-Folk
If I were forced to name or label my artistic style I think I would use the phrase “Suburban-
Folk”.  As a self-taught artist I draw heavily upon folk art traditions and merge them with a
suburban pre-occupation with celebrity and cultural or historic icons.

At its core I see my art as a process of collection, interpretation, modification and assembly.  I
collect images of the famous, the infamous and forgotten and render them as simple line
drawings.  I then manipulate those drawings and attempt to craft, or assemble, a series of
environments in which they can reside.  In each piece I hope to capture some fundamental
element of the world as I see it – line, color, rhythm, repetition, movement and change.

The notion of; and the process of creating “Suburban-Folk” art has become my creed.  It gives
my life a sense of purpose, direction and meaning that I’ve been unable to find in any other
activity, belief or ideology.
